Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is one of the world’s fastest-growing waste streams — with over 60 million tonnes generated annually, and rising. Only a few countries, such as Switzerland and Germany, are leading the way in addressing this challenge. Improper disposal through landfilling, incineration, or inadequate treatment causes serious health and environmental damage.

Yet e-waste is not just an environmental problem — it’s also a valuable resource. The metals and materials contained in WEEE represent an estimated economic potential of more than USD 110 billion per year, provided they are recovered efficiently and professionally.
